Introducing Lakewood Chiropractor Dr. Michael Russell

Lakewood Chiropractor, Dr. Michael RussellEver since I can remember, I was always a skeptic - of western medicine that is! The idea of a drug or an over the counter medication to cover up a symptom didn’t make sense to me. Combining that thought with an interest in athletics, the human frame and science, a holistic approach to health and wellness through Chiropractic seemed like a natural fit. Actually, chiropractic was first introduced to me when I became a patient for treatment for my low back injury sustained playing basketball in high school. From there, the beginnings of my career path began to take shape.

In the fall of 1994, I began attending Furman University in Greenville, SC, earning a bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science. Soon after graduation I headed for Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo, where I earned my Doctorate of Chiropractic in April of 2002. Logan College gave me the skills and confidence to return to Lakewood to start my own practice and begin helping patients of all ages reach their optimal health potential.

My intent is to help guide each patient to his or her highest level of wellness through chiropractic adjustments, nutritional consultation, and exercise instruction. I believe that health is not merely the absence of symptoms, but rather maximizing the function of the whole body and all its systems including the master system of the body, the nervous system. My staff and I approach this process by improving the structure of the spine with chiropractic and specific exercise instruction and meeting the body’s nutritional needs with whole food supplementation and dietary modification.

Away from the practice, I enjoy spending time with my wife Nicole, and two children, Alexandria and Cooper. I enjoy traveling, outdoor activities (especially running), sports, and playing golf. To compliment our active lifestyles, each member of our family receives regular chiropractic care and daily whole food supplements. In addition to our holistic approach to health, we also attempt to protect and preserve the planet with a "green" approach to daily living.

Dr. Michael Asks some important questions of interest to Lakewood residents - Chiropractor Lakewood Dr. Michael Asks...

Why are some people allergic to pollen and others aren't?
It's not the pollen. Chiropractors know that if it were, everyone would be allergic to pollen, nuts and pet dander. But that's not the case. It's the person, not the pollen! If you live in Lakewood and your stress levels are high, then each year the grass, the trees or the weeds put your nervous system over the top. Many report that chiropractic care helps reduce the frequency and severity of their allergic response.
What's the difference between maintenance, prevention and wellness?
Maintenance chiropractic care is an attempt to keep a dynamic, ever-changing and adapting organism (you) in a static relationship with your environment. Preventive chiropractic care is mostly about early detection. Wellness chiropractic care is an attempt to optimize our health and be all that you were designed to be.
