I Was A Skeptic Of Chiropractic Care

Lakewood Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Russell

Ever since I can remember, I was always a skeptic - of western medicine that is! The idea of a drug or an over the counter medication to cover up a symptom didn’t make sense to me. Combining that thought with an interest in athletics, the human frame and science, a holistic approach to health and wellness through Chiropractic seemed like a natural fit. Actually, chiropractic was first introduced to me when I became a patient for treatment for my low back injury sustained playing basketball in high school. From there, the beginnings of my career path began to take shape.

In the fall of 1994, I began attending Furman University in Greenville, SC, earning a bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science. Soon after graduation I headed for Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo, where I earned my Doctorate of Chiropractic in April of 2002. Logan College gave me the skills and confidence to return to Lakewood to start my own practice and begin helping patients of all ages reach their optimal health potential.

Outside Of Our Lakewood Practice

Away from the practice, I enjoy spending time with my wife Nicole, and two children, Alexandria and Cooper. I enjoy traveling, outdoor activities (especially running), sports, and playing golf. To compliment our active lifestyles, each member of our family receives regular chiropractic care and daily whole food supplements. In addition to our holistic approach to health, we also attempt to protect and preserve the planet with a "green" approach to daily living.

Dr. Michael Asks some important questions of interest to Lakewood residents - Chiropractor Lakewood Dr. Michael Asks...

Will chiropractic adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are fixated and "locked up" receive attention. The occasional spinal joint that moves too much is passed over so weakened muscles and ligaments can strengthen and heal.
Can someone who has had back surgery receive chiropractic care?
Yes. Rest assured that we will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. However, what we find is that surgical interventions will often produce spinal instability above or below the involved level. This is will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
